Catchment Water Disinfection
The quality of your water directly impacts your health, whether it's sourced from a municipal supply, well, or catchment. Ensuring it's free from pathogens is essential.
A reliable disinfection system is crucial for bathing, drinking, cooking, and overall well-being. In Hawai’i, the most common method for water disinfection in wells and rainwater catchments is ultraviolet (UV) treatment. However, it's important to note that not all UV systems are equal.
There are two types: NSF-55 Class A and Class B. Class B systems have intensity ratings below EPA guidelines for potable water use. Size also matters; some units are limited to 5 gallons per minute, exceeding which may result in inadequate disinfection.
UV systems utilize electricity to generate light from a mercury arc lamp. As these bulbs contain mercury, they should only be disposed of through Household Hazardous Waste events, which occur twice a year in Hawai'i. Additionally, the water being treated must be clear to prevent particles from obstructing light penetration to pathogens. UV systems only inhibit a pathogen’s reproductive capability when exposed to sufficient radiation.
Even when pathogens are "inactivated," they remain biologically active. If you're using a UV system for water disinfection, it's crucial to know its class, flow limit, and the water quality it's treating. Take the time to check now—it's your water supply.
There's new technology available that requires no power, contains no mercury, and effectively eliminates pathogens.
Ultimately, it's all about safeguarding your health.
For water disinfection solutions that effectively eliminate pathogens, we offer the complete line of Quantum Disinfection products.
Clean Water Filter Pack
for Whole House Water Disinfection
The Clean Water Filter Pack is a comprehensive whole-house water filtration and disinfection system. It incorporates Platinum - Quantum Disinfection alongside a 20-micron sediment filter and a 5-micron activated carbon block filter. This combination ensures clean water without the need for electricity or chemicals.
Platinum - Quantum Disinfection, developed by Claire Technologies, offers a chemical-free, power-free, maintenance-free, and highly cost-effective method for water disinfection. The Platinum system is designed to handle up to 12 gallons per minute (gpm) for a total capacity of 200,000 gallons.
The 20 Micron Universal Sediment Filter, featuring deep spun construction and housed in a 2.5 x 10 unit, requires replacement approximately every 3 months. Similarly, the 5 Micron activated carbon block filter, also housed in a 2.5 x 10 unit, should be replaced every 6 months.
A Garden Spigot feature allows for the use of filtered but un-disinfected water, suitable for activities such as car washing. A Flow Meter is included to measure the volume of water used, ensuring timely replacement of the Quantum Disinfection component.
The system is assembled on a "plug-and-play" board for straightforward installation.

Reverse Osmosis
The primary drawback of reverse osmosis is the removal of beneficial ingredients, particularly minerals, from water. Water without trace minerals is unnatural. Originally developed for industrial purposes such as printing and photo processing, reverse osmosis filtration, like water distillation, wasn't initially intended for human consumption.
Due to the absence of minerals, which are alkaline, water filtered through reverse osmosis can become acidic. Consequently, there's a risk of mineral depletion from your body through sweat and urine, potentially increasing the likelihood of osteoporosis and overall inflammation.
Using reverse osmosis water filters involves a health trade-off, necessitating consideration of various factors. Being well-informed enables you to assess their potential pros and cons more effectively. Whether the benefits outweigh the drawbacks may depend on factors like the pollutants present in your water, your dietary habits, mineral supplementation, lifestyle, and overall health.
Reverse osmosis is a process in which a solvent passes through a porous membrane against the natural osmotic direction when exposed to a hydrostatic pressure greater than the osmotic pressure.
