While rainwater may lack essential minerals, such as calcium, magnesium, iron, and fluoride, which are crucial for health, adding minerals to the catchment and storage tank can help raise the water's pH level, reducing its acidity.
The Acid Rain Mineral Packs consist of calcite (calcium carbonate) and corosex (magnesium oxide). When placed in a pool float within the catchment tank, these minerals are slowly absorbed into the water as required. Properly installing a suitably sized First Flush Water Diverter is crucial for ensuring high-quality water. These diverters enhance water quality, minimize tank/cistern maintenance, and safeguard pumps by preventing the initial flush of water, which may carry contaminants from the roof, from entering the tank/cistern. During rainfall, water accumulates slowly in the roof guttering system before being discharged through the downspout. The first flush of water from the roof can contain bacteria from decomposed insects, bird and animal droppings, as well as concentrated tannic acid. It may also contain sediments, waterborne heavy metals, and chemical residues, all of which are undesirable in a water storage system. The diverter works by redirecting initial rainfall away from entering the cistern(s), thereby removing sediment and debris from the collection surface.
